Try a short reading session
- 1.Pick a level.
- 2.Click a word for lookup help.
- 3.Answer the comprehension quiz.
- 4.See how your reading profile updates.
How it works
1. Passage
Read a short Japanese passage near your current edge.
2. Lookup
Click words or phrases when something does not land.
3. Quiz
Answer a quick comprehension check on what you read.
4. Profile
Your reading profile updates and guides the next passage.
Most reading tools only track what you studied. Here, how you read matters.
Your level is not just N3 or N2
Your profile uses sentence length, kanji density, lookup pressure, quiz answers, and ratings.
Clicks are evidence, not failure
Lookups become reading evidence.
Every passage updates the next one
The point is not one perfect AI passage. The point is a reading profile that gets more accurate over time.
Before you join
Good fit if:
- You can already read kana and some basic Japanese.
- You want more reading practice but real Japanese still feels too steep.
- You like learning through context, not only flashcards.
- You are okay with beta rough edges and reporting weird passages.
Not a good fit yet if:
- You are brand new to hiragana/katakana.
- You need perfect Japanese explanations every time.
- You want a full SRS, audio course, or grammar textbook replacement.
Beta notes
- Early access
- Free while capped. Yomigi is in a limited early-access beta.
- AI can be wrong
- Passages, quiz help, and lookup explanations can be awkward, unfair, or mistaken.
- Generation time
- A fresh long N1 passage can take up to about a minute. Shorter and lower levels are usually much faster.
- Passage quality
- Some passages may feel unnatural. Report them from the reader or recap screen.
- Reading Profile
- Your profile improves across repeated sessions, not from one passage.
- Personal information
- Avoid sensitive details in usernames, support notes, or practice text.
Questions
What is Yomigi?
Yomigi (読み技) is a Japanese reading trainer. You read short passages near your current edge, get help when you are stuck, answer a quick quiz, and that evidence shapes your next practice.
Who is Yomigi for?
Learners who can already read some Japanese and want real reading practice—not flashcards in isolation. It fits people who are fine tapping for help and giving quick feedback after each passage.
Is Yomigi for complete beginners?
Not really. You should be comfortable with hiragana and katakana and know at least a little basic Japanese. If you are still learning the scripts from zero, start there first.
Is this a replacement for Anki, WaniKani, Bunpro, or a textbook?
No. Those tools are strong for vocab, kanji, grammar drills, and structured study. Yomigi is for reading in context. Many learners use both.
Are the passages written by AI?
Usually yes. Fresh passages are generated by AI, checked automatically, and sometimes revised. Some approved passages may be reused so you are not waiting on generation every time.
Can AI be wrong?
Yes. Japanese, quizzes, and lookup explanations can be unnatural, unfair, or simply wrong. That is why this beta exists—please report anything that feels off.
What happens when I click a word?
Dictionary-style help and short context appear for that word or phrase in the sentence. It is meant to unblock you, not replace your own reading effort.
How does practice adapt?
Over sessions the profile tracks lookups, quiz answers, difficulty ratings, and reading friction—not just a single JLPT label. Future passages follow that edge, but calibration is still improving and will not be perfect yet.
Which Japanese levels does it support?
N5 through N1 practice lanes. Shorter passages are the most reliable today; longer and harder lanes are still improving.
Is beta access free?
Yes during the capped early-access beta. Spots are limited, and signup may pause when the cap is full.
What should I do if a passage feels wrong?
Use the report button on the reader or recap screen. The report includes the passage and session details—you do not need to write a long bug report.
What data does Yomigi store during beta?
Your account, reading sessions, lookups, quiz answers, difficulty ratings, reports, and profile signals. Beta data may be reset if needed to fix issues. You can erase your learner profile from Account & Settings. Email support@yomigi.app with privacy questions.
Privacy
What Yomigi stores
Yomigi stores your account, reading sessions, word lookups, quiz answers, difficulty ratings, reports, and the signals that build your reading profile while your account is active. For privacy or data questions, email support@yomigi.app.
What support may inspect when you report a problem
If you report a passage or send feedback, support may review the passage, your answers, lookup activity, timing/debug data, and your note so we can understand what went wrong. For troubleshooting, this may also include your account key, support email, app version, build ID, environment, passage/session IDs, quiz scores, and AI generation metadata.
What delete learning history removes
Delete learning history in Account & Settings clears learner-owned practice data on this account: learner profile, placement and reading settings, saved passages and sessions, lookups, quiz answers, practice history, reading evidence, review state, feature stats, report notes tied to deleted passages, catalog exposure history, passage drafts, and AI request/generation logs.
What delete learning history keeps
Your login account, support email, sign-in link, billing status, admin-only support notes, shared reusable catalog passages, and operational records that are not tied to deleted learner sessions may remain.
Export, closure, and operational logs
Account & Settings includes export, delete learning history, and close account controls. After deletion or closure, limited operational records such as closure events, billing webhook receipts, abuse-rate-limit counters, and anonymized product metrics may remain. These are not used to rebuild your reading profile.
Sensitive personal information
Do not put sensitive personal information in usernames, support notes, or practice text. Yomigi is for language practice—not for storing private life details, medical information, financial data, or other sensitive identifiers.
